Mozambican Labour Minister Helena Taipo believes that all necessary conditions are now in place for the "correct and uniform" application of the country's new labour law, which took effect in late 2007.

The Mozambican government approved new statutory minimum wages for nine sectors of activity. The new minimum wages represent increases of between 10 and 30 per cent.

The Mozambican Parliament enacted new personal income tax, corporate income tax and value added tax legislation at the end of last year. The new legislation came into force on 1 January 2008 and will apply to the 2008 tax year.
